Drum roll please… The new Windows 7 is set to hit stores October 22nd of this year! An announcement made Tuesday on the Windows 7 Blog gave the scheduled date of release as well as an approximate date for release for manufacturing, and another approximate date for an upgrade option this summer.

Starting somewhere in the second half of July, Windows 7 will be released for manufacturing in new computers. This sets a milestone on the way to Windows 7’s actual release. Also available this summer will be an upgrading option for all of the out of date Windows.

For the family with a child about to go off to college and in need of a new PC for the road, the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program will allow retailers “to offer a special deal to upgrade to Windows 7,” sometime before October 22nd . The BestBuy price for this upgrade will be around $50 for a Windows 7 Home Premium and about $100 for Windows 7 Professional. They will be offering this service starting June 26 but shipment of the new edition won’t be until October 22, 2009.

In the mean time, you should check out all the new features that Windows 7 will provide, like the Taskbar Overlord. Also there have been a lot of leaked images of the new Windows that definitely make it look worthwhile!
