What’s Worthy of Watching?

Like I’ve written before, Bit.ly is the default URL shortener for the ever popular Twitter. Because the service gets so many links to shorten every day, Bit.ly can analyze all sorts of data and statistics about what is popular and what is not.
Recently, the site realized the potential it had with all that information and used it to create Bitly.TV. This new site tracks bit.ly information to list videos that are going viral on the web. The list will change every time you hit the refresh button because it is so up-to-date. The site also allows you to watch the video right then and there by clicking on it. The video pops up in its own window along with current tweets that mention the video and the option to “Tweet this video.”
Also on Bitly.TV are lists of the most popular videos from yesterday and the most popular videos out of the last two days. So if you’ve missed any super popular videos, you can catch up on them here.
Mashable.com suggests that this is only the beginning for Bit.ly. They say it could be possible for Bit.ly to create the same site with blog posts (kind of like Digg, but faster and more accurate). Congrats to Bit.ly for finally finding a use for all that data and information!
