Raj,
Appreciate your reading and commenting, and your input. I wasn't trying to suggest that they used poor steel in the car's manufacturing. However, the article I linked to in the beginning of the post pretty clearly states that Tata made the car cheap by using cheaper parts.

And I don't for a second deny that India is becoming a powerhouse--in fact, I mentioned in the article that Tata is leading the way on super-affordable transportation.

Sorry if my brand of sarcasm rubbed you the wrong way. I do think the Nano is big news, and will mean big things for the auto industry in the years to come.

Thanks for stopping by.

You should've been better informed. The makers of Nano are Tata, and they are the fifth largest steel producers on the world. So raw material costs should be one of their least concerns.

Technology has to move forward with progress in civilization, that's why we did away with horses in our coaches and built engines. Lighter, stronger and cheaper doesnt always mean bad quality, it may be technological supremacy.

Its probably not easy to accept it in the scenario when US economy digs deeper into recession and India beats Japan in number of billionaires. Indians still need a long way to go, but it's an emerging superpower, and that's undeniable.
