Getting in the Holiday Spirit

With Thanksgiving comes a time of being thankful for the luxuries we have and giving to the less fortunate. Everyone has their holiday traditions of going to a local homeless shelter or soup kitchen, but even a random act of kindness can turn into a major movement with a little time.
This year Yahoo is joining in the giving spirit with a new idea. Based on the question “You in?”, Yahoo invites anyone across the world to share their stories about a random act of kindness. Basically, Yahoo is asking you to post any acts of kindness you may be performing in your status and then end the entry with “You in?” and see how many other will join your idea.
Many statuses are currently up across the globe and range from baking cookies for a friend in need to helping someone carry their groceries. There are also longer stories linked to Flickr that are accompanied with photos. One inspiring story tells about a woman paying for another woman’s groceries because her wallet was missing. The $207 bill was repaid to the Good Samaritan with an additional $93. The woman wrote about it on facebook and her blog and soon started raising money for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley. Touching stories like this one are what Yahoo is striving to collect.
There are only 248 acts of kindness posted so far, so it is the perfect time to jump aboard Yahoo’s movement and do something nice for someone less fortunate!
