A New Safari

safari

Safari 4 came out last Tuesday with a bang!  The new version of a familiar web browser claimed to have nearly 11 million downloads within the first three days of being released (6 million of which were for PCs). This sudden popularity, however, may not be due solely to downloading. It is possible for Apple to send updates to its Macbooks, upgrading Web Browsers to a new Safari 4. So is this claim to have 11 million downloads within three days of launch reliable?

Reports on this new Safari seem to be pretty neutral, saying it’s good, but not much different than the last version. The main difference is probably its speed. Now aimed at attracting not only Mac users but also PC users, the home page hides the menu bar, tab bar, and status bar. The Top Sites are shown in a unique format, with the full web page of each on the home screen. Another new but well-known feature (because it is the same as on iTunes) allows you to view your personal history in a Cover Flow.

When Opera launches tomorrow and “Reinvents the Web,” so it claims, then we will witness a full on battle of the web browsers. Top web browsers tend to be Firefox and Internet Explorer in the lead, Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera following, all with tight margins.
